What a fun few weeks to be a Canadian, seriously with all that we can be standing up for or against, some of “you people” decided to worry about whether an old school hockey bro should’ve been fired from his job for spewing divisive rhetoric. An individual was actually arrested for vandalizing a cenotaph in retaliation of his firing**. The same ideas Cherry was so adamant he was protecting. Weird. But hey, it was never really about poppies
It was directed at our neighbours, co-workers spouses or parents, the ones who were not born here but relocated for many reasons and live here and make this country their home. The ones the anti-immigrant dialogue was focused on, where did that conversation go? We need to be standing up for them, beside them embracing them.

Anyone else feeling like escaping the everyday? The daily news is at best dismal and at its worst horrific, personally feeling a bit defeated with some business and personal goals and treading water with my mental health. I’ve had the annual Prince Edward County, Firelight Lantern Festival circled, highlighted and starred in my calendar for months, and the timing couldn’t be better! It was the sparkly boost I needed to reset my brain, and remember all the magic in my life. Keep reading for fantasy overload....
Time flies when you are having fun. Yes this is a pretty general consensus, but it also flies when you are not paying attention to it. I really can't believe my last post was in April, five months have passed and I wouldn't even be able to fill a short paragraph of what happened. July basically didn't exist and the rest of the months surrounding it feel like a distant memory. I am not going focus on all of the plans I had and broke, what I want to work on is figuring out how to actually implement plans, tasks and to do's. And to start this..I write. Which was and is still a VERY large ghost in my life. THIS BLOG IS CALLED WE CHOOSE TODAY, and I literally forgot about today. Let's get started.
I was an avid volunteer for Big Brother’s and Big Sister’s of Toronto for over a decade. I spent hundreds of hours mentoring young ladies. It was the most fulfilling part of my week. I was awakened and re-motivated each and every time a session was finished. When we moved to Prince Edward County I continued the trip to Toronto each week to lead a group. This year was the first year in over a decade I have not been “giving back”. So I was so very interested when the opportunity came around to give back in a different way. Keeping with my theme; the year of colour. #ColourtoConquer could not be a better platform for me right now. With 1 in 2 Canadians getting a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime it also couldn’t be more meaningful.
You can never really tell where art is going to take you. And today, I am still not too sure if I went down the white rabbit's hole or was delivered back in time to a bygone era. (Think 1830's, not dinosaur old). But one strong fact is, I was transported to an afternoon easy and carefree; joyous and colourful. This is the inaugural year for ICE BOX whose tag line is "art in the heart of winter." And hopefully there will be many more to come, as it was a whimsical delight for both young and old. Two weekends of art, history and fun! CHECK IT OUT, ONE MORE WEEKEND FEB 9th - 10th (see website for event schedule) . My husband, dad and myself went to see what it was all about.
